SUMMARY:2026 Bridger Teton NF BioBlitz- Save the Date!
DESCRIPTION:June 26–28\, 2026 at New Fork Lake Group Campground. \nRegistration for Wyoming BioBlitz 2026 will open to WYNPS May 11 through June 8 and a link to registration will be posted on the WYNPS calendar at that time. \nRegistration will include the campsite and an optional catered dinner. Each hike will include botany leaders and will focus on recording plant diversity using iNaturalist in support of a preliminary checklist for the National Forest. Registration fees are TBD but likely to be $20+optional dinner add on. \nWyoming BioBlitz | Audubon \nIn 2026\, Wyoming BioBlitz will be held at New Fork Lake Group Campground near Pinedale\, Wyoming\, June 26–28. Set in the scenic Upper Green River Valley\, this campground sits along the shores of New Fork Lake with stunning views of the Wind River Range. Located roughly 10 miles north of Pinedale\, the area is rich in wildlife and plant diversity\, featuring sagebrush steppe\, riparian corridors\, wetlands\, and nearby forested habitats. Participants can expect to encounter a wide variety of species\, from migratory and resident birds to amphibians\, small mammals\, pollinators\, and native wildflowers that thrive in this dynamic landscape. The mix of water\, meadow\, and upland habitats makes this an ideal setting for community science and hands-on exploration of Wyoming’s biodiversity. \nView the New Fork Lake Group Campground information here.

SUMMARY:The Birds and the Bees of the Greys River Area
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, May 12\, 6-7 p.m. Teton County Library Ordway Auditorium  \n“The Birds and the Bees of the Greys River Area” \nDon DeLong and Taelyn Cathcart\, Wildlife Biologists\, USFS \nLIVE ONLY.  \nNative pollinators are “keystone species” that are essential to supporting biodiversity of the southern Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem\, in part by enabling the reproduction of 85% of flowering plants. Birds\, which comprise 80% of the vertebrate wildlife found on the Bridger-Teton\, are excellent indicators of ecosystem health. Both pollinators and birds can be found anywhere you go on the forest\, yet little is known about many of them. Don and Taelyn will let us know why they\, alongside several partners\, are monitoring pollinators and birds in the Greys River area and will share preliminary results of their investigations. \nDon DeLong is the Wildlife and Habitat Program Manager for the West Zone of the Bridger-Teton National Forest since 2004. Previously\, he worked at the National Elk Refuge from 2000 to 2004\, following work on other national wildlife refuges in Oregon\, Nevada\, and California. Don received an M.S. in Wildlife Science from Virginia Tech (where he studied bald Eagles on the Chesapeake Bay\, Maryland). \nTaelyn Cathcart is a wildlife biologist also for West Zone of the Bridger-Teton NF\, where she began seasonally in 2019 and moved into her current role in 2023. Currently\, she is a MS student studying biodiversity in the built environment at the University of Wyoming\, where she also achieved her bachelor’s degree in 2017.

We’d like to extend an invitation to you to participate.  \n\n\nOur focus will be learning the process of “mounting” plant specimens\, which involves gluing dried and pressed plant material with associated label data to archival herbarium paper. This is the “artsy” side of preparing scientific specimens for archival storage. Come learn the process and have fun with other people who love plants! \n\nThere are currently 3 evening events scheduled\, each from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in room 311 of the Aven Nelson building on campus at the University of Wyoming in Laramie\, on the following dates: \n\n\n-Tuesday\, February 24\n-Tuesday\, March 10\n-Tuesday\, March 24\n-Tuesday\, April 7\n-Tuesday\, April 21 \n\n\nSpace is limited to 8 participants each night\, so we have a sign up sheet for each evening: \n\n\nhttps://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0449A9A62DA0FFC25-62325653-curatorial#/ \nDepending on interest and availability\, we may schedule more Curatorial Nights later this spring. If you would like to learn the mounting process\, but are unable to attend an evening session\, you can e-mail Interim Curator separately at sbeaver5@uwyo.edu and she can schedule a time to meet with you.

This is the “artsy” side of preparing scientific specimens for archival storage. Come learn the process and have fun with other people who love plants! \n\nThere are currently 3 evening events scheduled\, each from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in room 311 of the Aven Nelson building on campus at the University of Wyoming in Laramie\, on the following dates: \n\n\n-Tuesday\, February 24\n-Tuesday\, March 10\n-Tuesday\, March 24 \n\n\nSpace is limited to 8 participants each night\, so we have a sign up sheet for each evening: \n\n\nhttps://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0449A9A62DA0FFC25-62325653-curatorial#/ \nDepending on interest and availability\, we may schedule more Curatorial Nights later this spring. If you would like to learn the mounting process\, but are unable to attend an evening session\, you can e-mail Interim Curator separately at sbeaver5@uwyo.edu and she can schedule a time to meet with you.
